Dr Alex grew up in Western Australia, graduating from Murdoch University in Perth in 2000. Shortly afterwards, he worked in the vet school at Melbourne University alongside the specialists, and supervising students. Dr Alex then spent 13 years working in a busy group of hospitals in Adelaide’s south (including 10 years as a partner), honing his surgical skills and accepting second opinion cases from colleagues.
Dr Alex has completed post-graduate qualifications and was admitted to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2005, achieving Memberships in Small Animal Medicine. He followed this up with Memberships in Small Animal Surgery five years later.
His interests include oncology, medical imaging, and reconstructive and orthopaedic surgery. He has experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and advanced medical imaging including endoscopy, ultrasound and computed tomography (CT). He enjoys doing TPLOs.
Dr Alex’s veterinary experiences range from working out of a caravan in WA’s far north, trapping and release of endangered species, working with a male Silverback Gorilla at one of Australia’s zoos, being a business owner as well as working in a university environment, and he enjoys the enormous diversity the profession brings.
Outside of work, he enjoys travelling, photography, spending time with family and in the natural world (and has fond memories of time spent in Borneo and Costa Rica). He is the proud owner of two Australian Shepherds.
